It happened just after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 in Hauppauge.

Laura Ruggiero, 36, of Hauppauge was driving a 2016 Nissan northbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when the vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto MacArthur Boulevard and collided with a 2003 Harley Davidson traveling northbound on Veterans Memorial Highway, Suffolk County Police said.

The motorcyclist, Joseph Waite, 60, of Shirley, was transported to Southside Hospital Medical Center in Bay Shore, with serious injuries. Waite’s passenger, Andrea McCarthy, 52, of Bohemia, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

Ruggiero, 36, of 3 Spartan Lane, Hauppauge, was uninjured.

The motorcycle and vehicle were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
